VIABILITY STUDY FOR THE RFID IMPLEMENTATION IN THE OCIANI TRANSPORTATION COMPANY

Resumo
The expenditure with the tires acquisition and maintenance in a transportation company’s fleet represents a big cost. For that reason, a new technology that enables a bigger equipment control will certainly bring values diminishing. The aim of this study is to evaluate the RFID tag’s implementation viability on the fleet’s tires, with the intention of automatically provide accurate and online information about it, in order to avoid possible human error, and to help the company’s decision-making process using such information. Research and interviews were attended at the company to verify what control is run on tires, and what costs it might bring to the transportation company. For the matter of the expenses involved in the RFID implementation, costs surveys showed that the RFID tags for tires are still something new in the local market and that only a few companies in Brazil are exploring it nowadays, making difficult the access to this specific technology. Thus, if this tool is properly implemented, it could enable a roll of benefits to the company, reducing significantly the tire’s maintenance costs and recovering the initial investment in a short time
